License Exam (How to sit for exam.) -- >
  License Exam

  • License Exam Eligibility Requirements
  • To become eligible to sit for license exam, you must meet all licensure requirements. In order to be approved to take the license exam, you must meet all requirements for state licensure as outlined in the MS LPC Rules and Regulations (Rule 4).

If, after reading Rule 4, you determine you have met all licensure requirements except the passing scores from the license exam, you must complete and submit an online application (available in the "Forms" section on the left side menu of the website) and all supporting documents for review. The MS LPC Board will review your application, education, experience and supervision to determine if you meet all requirements for licensure candidacy. Once approved, you will be a Candidate to take the license exam and will receive a Licensure Examination Registration Form from the Mississippi Board. (Candidates must receive approval from the Mississippi State Board of Examiners before they are eligible for testing.)

Prior to licensure, all applicants must pass the National Counselor Examination or the National Clinical Mental Health Counselor Examination for Licensure or Certification (NCE or NCMHCE) published by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), Inc. After July 1, 2015, the Board will only approve Applicants for licensure candidacy to sit for the NCMHCE.

Individuals making initial application for licensure who have already taken the NCE, prior to July 1, 2015, or the NCMHCE must include in their application packet an official VERIFICATION OF CERTIFICATION AND EXAMINATION SCORES report from the National Board for Certified Counselors, Inc., or directly from another state’s appropriate licensing board, indicating a passing score. These individuals will be considered for licensure without retaking the NCE or NCMHCE.  (To simplify, if you have taken and passed the NCE or the NCMHCE prior to July 1, 2015, the exam scores will be acceptable for licensure.)
  • License Exam Dates
  • Testing occurs during the first two full weeks of each month. Candidates are scheduled on a first-come-first-served basis. There are two testing locations in Mississippi; however, you are able to test at any of the more than 446 Pearson professional centers around the globe. The two sites in Mississippi are in Jackson and Tupelo.
